Pokelicious
So very happy to discover the joys of the Poke Bowls at this newly opened restaurant.
In the same street as Sticky's, Pokelicious has opened in the building that used to house Once Upon a Time, and has a perfect low GI menu (as well as higher GI options!). And the price is great too.
They have some bowls they have created themselves, but also a pick and mix option and it is this that I most love.
It starts with a base. And amongst the choices is cauliflower rice - and it tastes so much better than the cauliflower rice I've had elsewhere. Then you choose your toppings. Salmon, tuna or chicken breast come as standard options. Then add 4 extras - there is a huge range, so much so that I can't help but choose more than just the 4 (and for a small extra price, this is no problem!). My favourites are edamame, radish, quail's egg, avocado and asparagus (both for a small extra charge), but there are also plenty of other options such as fried tofu, kimchi, mushrooms, crab sticks, etc. Then you get to choose a couple of toppings. For me it's the crushed almonds and roasted sesame seeds, but ebiko and ikura, pickled ginger or fresh wasabi will give a much more Japanese feel to the dish. Finally the sauces finish it off perfectly - oriental shoyu made from Japanese soya sauce and fresh ginger gives it a zing, or spice it up with the elevated sriracha option. My favourite is the roasted sesame sauce though.
And the soup too! So good. I keep going back!
The total cost of all this (assuming you don't take any extras) is just 45,000 kip. I paid a bit more as I had 5 add-ons instead of 4 (because I couldn't resist), and also the avocado and asparagus has a surcharge. Nevertheless, this seems such a great bargain.
For now, it's my preferred lunch spot for low GI food!
